Hide and Go Seek

  1. HIDE AND SEEK - A black ink and black color pencil drawing on an 11 x 14 size coquille board. It appears in the paperback, "Dragonlance Tales, No.3."

The Incredible things we do and the unbelievable events that occur to us often pass unseen by others. And yet, they do happen. I hesitate to write this story in fear that you will scoff and call me liar. Nevertheless . . .

I had an eraser that I named Houdini because it kept disappearing on me. He would try to escape by rolling off my drawing table and bounce around on the floor looking for a place to hide where I could not find him. But I always did, and I always put him back to work.

Until one day Houdini made another effort to escape and I could not find him! I looked everywhere; all around my swivel chair, under the drawing table, along the baseboard of all the book cases lined against the back wall, along the bottom of the utility cabinet against the right side wall, along the bottoms of the two file cabinets and the book case against the left side wall. Where could he be?

I thought, maybe he rolled through the open doorway on the right side of the room, into the master bedroom? I searched, he wasn't there! How about the other open doorway leading to the spare room? I searched, he wasn't there either!

Houdini, Houdini, come out, come out, wherever you are! I went back to the drawing room, sat down in my swivel chair and thought about where he could possibly be? Maybe, when he rolled through the open doorway at the right side of the room he turned left and rolled down the stairs into the living room? Or the Kitchen? I searched both places, he was not there!
